Richie English First Life

English was born in Doon, County Limerick, and he has a family relationship with his cousin, Darragh Fitzgibbon, a member of the Cork senior hurdles team.

Richie’s English career

University

While studying at Mary Immaculate College, English was selected to join the school’s senior hurdles team. In the second season, he was honored with the role of captain. On February 27, 2016, he reached a major milestone of winning a Fitzgibbon Cup medal as Mary I clinched their first title with a thrilling 1-30 to 3-22 victory over the Grand Prix. learn Limerick. Minors and under the age of 21

The Englishman’s journey with Limerick began at the minor level in 2012, where the season ended with a defeat to Clare in the semi-finals of the Munster Championship. The following year, he commanded the small team and tasted victory on 23 July 2013, playing at right-back as Limerick won its first Munster Championship title in 29 years, beating Waterford by a margin. numbers 1-20 to 4-08.

Moving up the senior ranks, English joined the Limerick senior hurdles team in January 2014. On 13 February 2016, he made his senior debut at left-back in the win of the team. National League before Wexford. In the championship, he made his first start in the semi-finals of the Munster Championship but suffered a 3-11 to 1-16 defeat to Tipperary.

A key highlight of English’s senior career came on 19 August 2018, when he played at left-back in Limerick’s historic All-Ireland win, beating Galway with a score of 3-16 to 2-18. Following this achievement, he was honored to be named on the Sunday Game Team of the Year and received the All-Star Award that season.

On 31 March 2019, English played at left-back in Limerick’s National League final against Waterford at Croke Park, contributing to their 1-24 to 0-19 victory and won medal for the winner. However, this victory was met with sadness when his father, Paddy English, died after a long illness. On June 30, 2019, he won a Munster Championship medal in the same position, helping Limerick beat Tipperary 2–26 to 2-14 in the final. His stellar performances earned him a second All-Star nomination that year.

Unfortunately, his season was cut short on February 23, 2020, due to his serious injury, which kept him out for the rest of the year.
