Seán Finn, born 24 January 1996, is an Irish hurdler. He is known as a right-back for Bruff, his club’s team, and also represents the Limerick senior hurdles team at the inter-district level.

The Early Life of Seán Finn

Seán Finn was born in Bruff, County Limerick, Finn comes from a family of hurdlers. His father, Brian Finn, was a member of the Limerick senior hurdles team that won the 1994 Munster Championship medal.

University

While studying at the University of Limerick, Finn was selected to join the university’s senior hurdles team. On 24 February 2018, he won the Fitzgibbon Cup medal as UL won 2-21 to 2-15 over Dublin City University in the final.

Club

Finn became a member of the Bruff club at a young age and progressed through various age groups and levels before joining the club’s senior team. On October 25, 2014, he won the Top Intermediate Championship medal after Bruff defeated Croom in the final 2-14 to 0-16.

At the age of seventeen, Finn made his debut for the Limerick light hurdles team. On 23 July 2013, he played at left-back as Limerick won its first Munster Championship in 29 years. They achieved this after replaying the final, beating Waterford 1-20 to 4-08.

The following year, Finn still qualified for the junior class and won another Munster Championship medal. Limerick faced Waterford again in a replay of the final, winning 0-24 to 0-18. On 7 September 2014, Finn played at right-back in the all-Ireland final, where Limerick suffered a 2-17 0-19 defeat to Kilkenny.

Later, Finn joined the Limerick under-21 hurdles team. In his first season, he won a Munster Championship medal following a 0-22 to 0-19 win over Clare in the final. On 12 September 2015, Finn played at right back in the all-Ireland final, where Limerick won 0-26 to 1–07 over Wexford.

Unfortunately, on 4 February 2016, Finn tore his anterior cruciate ligament, which kept him out of action for the year. However, he came back in 2017 and won his second Munster Championship medal. Limerick beat Cork in the final 0-16 to 1-11. On 9 September 2017, Finn played at right-back in Limerick’s all-Ireland win over Kilkenny, with the final score being 0-17 to 0-11. He was later recognized for his outstanding performance and named in the Bord Gais Energy Team of the Year.

2016 season

Finn was selected by Limerick senior team manager TJ Ryan to join the team against the 2016 Munster League. He made his team debut on 3 January 2016, playing as a right-back against Kerry, a match. match that Limerick won with a score of 2-2 to 0-18. On 23 January 2016, Finn again started the team, but Limerick was defeated by Clare in the final. Unfortunately, on 9 February 2016 it was announced that Finn would be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament tear.

2017 season

After recovering from a severe injury, Finn was once again selected to the Limerick team under new coach John Kiely for the 2017 season. Despite not joining the Munster League prior to the season, he made his debut. made his debut on 4 March 2017, in a National League match against Offaly, which Limerick won 1-25 to 3-15. Over the course of the season, Finn made three league appearances, including once as a substitute in a semi-final defeat to Galway. 2018 season

For the upcoming 2018 season, Finn is once again named to Limerick’s 38-man roster. However, he only appeared once in the pre-season Munster League. In the subsequent National League, Finn played five of Limerick’s seven games. On 19 August 2018, he started at right-back in the all-Ireland final against Galway, a match Limerick won 3-16 to 2-18, winning the All-Ireland Championship. first in 45 years. 2019 season

He was once again recognized for his stellar performance and was named at right-back on the GAA/GPA All-Star Team for the second year in a row.

2020 season

Finn did not participate in two group stage games of the Munster League 2020 for Limerick. However, he returned to the team as a substitute in the final against Cork on 11 January 2020, where Limerick won 1-32 to 0-20. In the subsequent National League campaign, Finn played four of Limerick’s five Division 1A games. On 25 October 2020, he started as a right-back in the tournament final and contributed to Limerick’s 0-36 to 1-23 win over Clare. Finn finished the 2020 Munster Championship with a second consecutive winner’s medal after Limerick beat Waterford. Once again, he was selected as right-back in the all-Ireland final against Waterford on 13 December 2020 and won his second title in three years 0-30 to 0-19.
