Season 9 of Love Island will have ten participants going to a luxury villa in South Africa, where the climate will make winter like summer. Tanya Manhenga, a 22-year-old biomedical science student from Liverpool, was one of the competitors due to her appearance on the show. The candidate was so determined to appear on the show and find love that she chose to postpone her studies.
In an interview with Metro UK, she said that she plans to continue her degree after Love Island. Tanya wants to work in the field of embryology, which is mainly related to IVF (in vitro fertilization). She said she wanted to help people have children.
She said in her interview:
“It’s the only job I really want because it gives me the most satisfaction; I want to get up and say, ‘This will help.’” That’s definitely where I’m going.”
The Love Island participant only had one semester left, and her mother supported her wish to join the program and then continue school. Tanya added that her mother was relieved that she almost finished her degree as she would not like it if she stopped halfway. She was afraid that Tanya would be sure of her choice, but when she knew how little money was left, she supported and agreed.
According to Mahenga’s ITV profile, she fell in love early and wanted to be treated like a princess. She also keeps her card to her chest. Mahenga describes herself as impulsive, vibrant and confident. She went on to say:
“I’m pretty agreeable, but don’t let that fool you. I want to be friends with everyone, but if you’re being cheeky, I’m the type to return the favor.

Mahenga told ITV she is looking for a relationship and that being on Love Island with various people will help her figure out what she wants in a life partner. Tanya confessed to Bustle that her ideal type is “awesome average”. If she had to pick someone from previous seasons, she’d pick Dami Hope, who has great style, or Luca, who has a “really mysterious feeling with tattoos and things like that”.
