“Lawmen: Bass Reeves” begins with Taylor Sheridan announcing a television series about famous lawyer Bass Reeves for September 2021, starring David Oyelowo. Paramount officially ordered the series in May 2022, initially connecting it to Yellowstone as “1883: The Bass Reeves Story”. It was later determined to be a stand-alone series. Taylor Sheridan directed the first episode, inspired by the first two books of The Bass Reeves Trilogy.
The cast, including Dennis Quaid, Forrest Goodluck, Lauren E. Banks, Barry Pepper, Grantham Coleman, Demi Singleton and Garrett Hedlund, was assembled and in April the title became “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” to cover including other lawyers.
