Elf Plot
On Christmas Eve, a baby accidentally ends up in Santa’s sack and is taken to the North Pole. The elves there name him Buddy. He grows up thinking he’s an elf, even though he’s much bigger and not good at making toys. But one day, he learns he’s actually a human, born to Walter Hobbs and the late Susan Wells, who put him up for adoption. Walter, now a busy executive in New York City, doesn’t know Buddy exists. Santa tells Buddy he can help Walter find the Christmas spirit.
Buddy goes to New York and tries to connect with Walter, but things don’t go well. Walter doesn’t recognize him and gets him in trouble. Buddy also meets Jovie, who works at a store, and he’s smitten with her. He tries to make the store more Christmassy. When he realizes the store’s Santa isn’t real, he causes a scene.
Walter gets Buddy out of jail and, through a DNA test, learns Buddy is his son. They go home to meet the family, and it’s awkward. But Buddy and his half-brother, Michael, become friends. Buddy even falls in love with Jovie. Meanwhile, Walter’s job is in trouble, and he needs to make a new book by Christmas Eve. But Buddy messes up a meeting, and Walter gets angry and tells Buddy to leave.
Buddy sees Santa’s sleigh crash and finds the missing part. He reunites with his family, and they help Santa. They prove Santa is real on live TV. Buddy writes a book, Walter starts his own company, Buddy marries Jovie, and they have a baby. They all find happiness, and Christmas is saved.
