Biography of William Houston

William Houston was born in Sussex and raised in Northern Ireland. Houston trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama and has played many lead roles on the classical stage, including Troilus in Troilus and Cressida, Prince Hal in both seasons of Henry IV, and leading roles in Henry IV. V (for which he was nominated for the Evening Standard Theater Award for Best Actor), Ben Jonson’s Sejanus and Coriolanus for the Royal Shakespeare Company, and Pentheus/Agave in Sir Peter Hall’s Euripides. In January 2014, he landed the lead role in Fortune’s Fool at the Old Vic, replacing Iain Glen. From May to July 2014, he played Titus in Lucy Bailey’s play Titus Andronicus at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

In April 2009, he appeared in “Cause and Effect,” the second episode of Robin Hood’s third season. He also played Boucher in the BBC version of Elizabeth Gaskell’s “North and South,” with Daniela Denby-Ashe and Richard Armitage. He played Dr Millias Culpin in the BBC series Casualty 1909 and 1907.

He played Constable ‘Clarky’ Clarke in Guy Ritchie’s 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law, and reprized the character in the 2011 sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. He teamed up with From Software to voice Marvelous Chester in the 2011 Dark Souls DLC, King Vendrick in Dark Souls 2, and Scholar of the First Sin in the re-release. In 2015, he voiced Retired Hunter Djura and NPC’s Gatekeeper in Bloodborne, and in 2016 he portrayed optional boss rival Oceiros, the Consumed King in Dark Souls III.
