After graduating from Newton South High School in 1991, she attended Brown University and New York University’s Graduate Acting Program at the Tisch School of the Arts.

Hinkle portrayed Juliet opposite Jean Stapleton as the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet at the Lansburgh Theatre in Washington, DC, from January 25 to March 13, 1994.

Despite being a regular on the program, she only featured in a few episodes after the seventh season. She was progressively eased out of the show, and her last regular appearances were in the ninth season. She appeared just once in each of the previous three seasons, although she was still listed as a regular.
