Rocky’s grandfather, Bob Lombardi, was a famous football coach. People consider him the man who built a football legacy for his family. Bob passed away on May 28, 2021, after being born on June 3, 1938. From 1976 to 1978, he was the head football coach at the University of Chicago. He met his wife, Melinda, at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where he was the football coach and daughter of the athletic director.

Bob also taught economics and math at the school. In 1967, he was promoted to head football coach at Homewood-Flossmoor. Lombardi succeeded his father-in-law as head football coach at the University of Chicago in 1976. He was also appointed an associate professor in the school’s Department of Physical Education.
