Netflix, best known for its Young Adult collection, is preparing to release a new series titled Bastard & Devil himself. Jay Lycurgo will lead, with support from Nadia Parkes and Emilien Vekemans. Lycurgo will play Nathan Byrn, the illegitimate son of Marcus Edge, the World’s Most Dangerous Wizard, in the YA show. Half Bad, The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, based on the fantasy book by Sally Green, will be released on Friday, October 28, 2022.
The series, which consists of eight hour-long episodes, will premiere on Netflix on Fridays at 3 a.m. ET (or at midnight PT). Since Netflix typically releases a bunch of episodes, it’s predictable that they’ll all be available to watch on Friday.
According to the official synopsis for The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself:
“Strapped between two warring tribes, the son of a notorious sorcerer responsible for a terrible carnage seeks his place in the world – and his abilities.”
Nathan is a Half Code being watched by the Council of White Witches in The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself.
Nathan, the illegitimate child of a White witch (oppressive majority culture) and a Black man, is the protagonist of Bastard & the Devil himself (a minority considered evil) devil). Nathan was labeled Half Code after the murder of his mother and was repeatedly scrutinized by the Council of White Witches for his Black bloodline.

After breaking one of the White Witch Council’s laws, Nathan was placed under their direct control and assigned a new guardian, Celia. The rest of the plot is about Nathan breaking free of Celia’s tyrannical control and reconnecting with his father, the World’s Most Dangerous Wizard Marcus Edge. The source material for The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, originally intended for a film, was a huge success.
Half Bad, the first volume of the trilogy, was released in 2014 and was originally intended to be made into a feature film. Karen Rosenfelt, best known for her work in The Twilight Saga and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, was recruited to produce it. However, the project remained unfinished until Netflix announced in 2020 that it would produce a TV series based on the Half-Bad trilogy.
Half Bad sets two Guinness World Records: ‘Most translated books by a debut author, before publication’ and ‘Most translated children’s books by a debut author, prior to publication’ .’ The text was in considerable demand and the foreign rights were quickly sold. The work was also nominated for the prestigious Branford Boase Award and won the 2015 Waterstones Teen Book Prize. It has produced two sequels, Half Wild and Half Lost, both of which will almost certainly be adapted by Netflix. However, the performance and reception of The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself will be important.
