Jude Walton, former police oversight commissioner and Avalon Housing’s head of employee experience, has passed away. When police went to the home of native Ann Arbor for a welfare check, they discovered her dead body. Her death occurred when she was 51 years old. Her death is currently being investigated as a homicide. Police were called to Jude Walton’s home on Chapin Street at 1:30 p.m. Thursday after her employer reported she hadn’t come to work. She was last seen by a neighbor at 8pm the night before.

Ann Arbor’s interim police chief, Aimee Metzer, said in a press release that there were “clear indications that this was a homicide.” According to police, the suspect entered the house through the back window. Metzer stated:
“Most of the house appears to be in good condition, with no signs of a large amount of furniture being taken or damaged.”

Walton is known as a “pillar in the community” because of his charitable activities and support for the homeless. At the time of writing, the official cause of death has not been revealed. According to a police official, there were “obvious signs of trauma on her body.” On Friday, an autopsy was scheduled.

Jude Walton arrived in Ann Arbor from London more than two decades ago. According to M Live, she grew up right above her parents’ bar in north London. She apparently got a 30% lifetime discount after leaving the company. She also serves on the Independent Community Police Oversight Committee as a commissioner. Lisa Jackson, a former colleague, said of Walton:
“She was able to cut through some of the minutiae and get straight to the point of what we wanted to achieve… People believed that she was sensitive and they respected her for that. She doesn’t talk much, but she’s someone we all pay attention to.”

She started working with Avalon Housing in December 2008. According to her LinkedIn page, she was appointed Human Resources and Administration Manager. She had spent the previous 14 years with the group Ann Arbor. The nonprofit pays tribute to its former employees on its official Facebook page. They wrote about her character on the internet:
“Jude is a wonderful, caring, kind, funny, talented, intelligent, humble and insightful person. She’s the person we all turn to when we’re having a hard time at work. It’s hard to picture Avalon without her. We mourn this incalculable loss.”
Jude Walton loves photography and is an amateur photographer in her spare time. At the time of writing, there have been no arrests related to Jude Walton’s death.
