When she was seven, her family’s South Los Angeles home was destroyed in a fire, leading them to relocate near Slauson Avenue. During her formative years, Aiko received homeschooling education until she reached high school.

Her diverse heritage includes a mother of Spanish, Dominican, and Japanese descent, while her father is of Black and Native American ancestry. Aiko has two sisters, Miyoko and Jamila, the latter known as Mila J, who were members of the 1990s group Gyrl. Tragically, her older brother, Miyagi, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in 2010 and passed away in 2012 at the age of 26.

Jhené Aiko’s music career began when she lent her vocals to the group B2K. She reached a significant milestone with the release of her second album, “Trip,” in September 2017.
